Vallenfyre - Ravenous Whore (video)

This is just too cool not to share! A fan video made for Vallenfyre's "Ravenous Whore" from the album A Fragile King. It's an amazing piece of stop motion. A lot of care and attention went into this. Mondo thumbs up to Jamie Evans for making this!

February 25, 2014
Tim Lambesis from band As I Lay Dying sentenced to 9 years in prison!

According to NBC San Diego, As I Lay Dying singer Tim Lambesis pleaded guilty to hiring someone to kill his wife.

Lambesis, 32, entered the change of plea in court Tuesday, admitting that he hired a hit man to kill his estranged wife. He faces a maximum sentence of nine years and a $10,000 fine.

Prosecutors alleged Lambesis had twice told a man at a gym that he wanted his wife killed, then met with an undercover detective known as "Red", and gave the agent an envelope containing $1,000 in cash, photographs of his wife, and the security gate code to her house. He also allegedly told the agent the dates he would be with the couple's three adopted children, in order to give himself an alibi.

A number of witnesses testified for the prosecution during a September 2013 hearing, including the undercover officer who posed as a hitman. The officer explained that Lambesis told him, "Just t…

Anette Olzon ex-Nightwish Releases new song "Lies"

In celebration of her forthcoming debut solo outing, Shine, former Nightwish frontwoman, ANETTE OLZON, is pleased to unveil the official video for the track "Lies."

Directed by Patrick Ullaeus (Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil, In Flames, Sonata Arctica), the striking visuals perfectly complement the enormous range of OLZON's velvety vocal serenades. "'Lies' is actually a divorce song," OLZON elaborates, "When I entered Nightwish, my [now] ex-husband wanted to divorce me. So in the middle of becoming a big singer in a big band and having my dreams fulfilled, I also had to go through a very hard divorce with a little son. I think I needed to write a song about that." However, a song like that can work on different levels, she agrees. "That thing with Nightwish was also like a divorce, a really hard divorce. It's always like that when people separate and go in different directions with hurt feelings."

Best known for her time fronting…

The Socks - Holy Sons (video)

The Socks release another track from their upcoming album entitled The Socks. The album is due March 18 and is something heavy in a non-metal way. It's more eclectic psychedelic heavy. "Holy Son" has gravitas. Comments the band about the track "Holy Sons," "This is the most psychedelic song of the album, rather slow and ambient. We didn't know how to finish the song before entering the studio. We started jamming and improvising the last part of the song, and figured out that it was the way this song had to end."

SAVAGE MESSIAH - Hellblazer (video)

I tried to think of something clever to say about this video. I tried to articulate the guitar playing. I wanted to come up with something insightful about the composition. Epic FAIL on my part. All I managed was a mighty "ROOOOAARRRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHHHH" and massive amounts of head banging about the flat. So I shall just give you Savage Messiah's next track from the upcoming Earache album The Fateful Dark out on march 10th. Here is "Hellblazer"

SAVAGE MESSIAH frontman Dave Silver comments:

"As we get ever closer to the release date for 'The Fateful Dark', we're very pleased to unveil our latest promo for the track 'Hellblazer'.  Musically, this is a solid representation of the Savage Messiah sound; melodic, heavy, catchy and with guitar solos galore!  We tried to invoke that classic Uriah Heep-esque groove with this track so we hope you dig it!  And talking of invoking, the video depicts us conducting a kind of exorcism ritual of sorts where…

Amon Amarth - Father of the Wolf (video)

OK - this is just seriously gobsmackingly beautiful. The landscape, the cinematography, the actors. It's haunting. It's epic. It's Amon Amarth "Father of the Wolf" from critically acclaimed album Deceiver of the Gods. Brian E. said his "...beard grew a foot and my salad turned to bacon."  If that's not a ringing endorsement for any song or video, I don't know what is. How about Amon Amarth are the best band you could ever listen to? "Father of the Wolf" is chock full of blazing riffs, hard drumming, and evil laden vocals. "Father of the Wolf" punches you in the gut and rips out your heart. Deceiver of the Gods is an album you must buy if you haven't already, or replay again at very loud volumes if you currently have it in your arsenal.

RIVAL SONS are in the studio working on their fourth full-length album, the follow-up to 2012's HEAD DOWN.

The band entered LCS Studios at the beginning of January and will spend a full six weeks recording.  The album will again be produced by DAVE COBB, who will have worked on all five RIVAL SONS releases.

Producer DAVE COBB comments:

"This record the boys seem to have a fire in them!  With Dave Beste in tow, we've never had this much time to make a record.  During the previous albums, which were twenty days each, we had a room full of whiskey bottles at the end; this time, which is six weeks, there should be enough to fill a football field!"
New bassist DAVE BESTE adds:

"After we played Nashville last summer, the guys asked me to join them in the studio to make this new record.  And I said, 'Of course!'.  It's an involved process, at times quite intense, but going well - all of us are excited with what we have so far and although there's still a lon…

Super group: Gillan, Iommi, Lord, and McBrain! WhoCares single "Out of My Mind"

Well this starts out oh so ominous. I can't wait to hear what comes next. That's the new track from Ian Gillan, Tony Iommi, Jon Lord, Nicko McBrain, and Jason Newsted. Before you fall over dead in faint at Tony Iommi, Jon Lord (RIP), Nicko McBrain and Ian Gillan in a studio together; give the track a listen.... then fucking fall over! It's ominous, it's heavy, it's dark. IT'S DELICOUS! OH THANK YOU METAL GODS! Ian Gillan's voice is still quite mesmerizing. It's Tony Iommi on guitar. Nuff said. TONY FUCKING IOMMI. And everyone loves Nicko. If you don't, there is something seriously flawed with your thinking. This combination is just gobsmackingly amazing. These guys were setting a standard when I was still in a Catholic School uniform and pigtails. Some forty years later, they are still setting the standard. The track was actually released in 2011 as a charity single. I, for one am glad it's making the rounds again, as the song is stellar! This …

Lacuna Coil - Nothing Stands in Our Way (single)

Oh, so heavy. So sci-fi. That's how Lacuna Coil's newest single "Nothing Stands in Our Way" from the upcoming album 'Broken Crown Halo' on Century Media Records at the end of March. "Nothing Stands in Our Way" is headbanging heaven with awesome vocals and  in your face guitars. The track is elegant in its simplicity. Nothing extraneous, just a strait ahead rock and roll song. “Through everyday battles, against all odds, we stand united and don’t look back. We go on against crashing economy, heartbreaks, lifelong obstacles. We learn from our mistakes and nothing can stop us. We fear nothing and we are determined as musicians and as human beings”, say Lacuna Coil about “Nothing Stands In Our Way”.

SAXON - Frozen Rainbow (video)

Just gobsmackingly beautiful. Haunting. You can't be metal if you don't like SAXON! After 38 years of music, they are STILL spot on. Many younger bands don't have this kind of gravitas or ingenuity. Always and forever a SAXON fan! You should be too! Go forth and purchase the album UNPLUGGED AND STRUNG UP.

Metallica to record 4 Songs for Ronnie James Dio tribute album!

Now here's some exciting news from the Metallica camp! This was posted to their Facebook page today! I'm excited! Are you excited?
Throughout the years we’ve made no secret of our deep love and admiration for Ronnie James Dio. Whether it was with Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Heaven & Hell or Dio..., his powerful voice was instantly recognizable and his music inspired and influenced the four of us tremendously. When we were asked to be a part of a tribute album for Ronnie, of course we immediately said "fuck yeah!" Choosing a song to record, however, was a MUCH harder decision... so we did four! Our contribution to "Ronnie James Dio: This Is Your Life" will include the medley we call "Ronnie Rising, " comprised of Rainbow’s "A Light In The Black," "Tarot Woman," "Stargazer," and "Kill The King."

The full album hits the streets and all of your friendly digital outlets on April 1, 2014 and a portion of the proce…

San Francisco-based atmospheric death metal collective, FALLUJAH, are very pleased to take part in The Best In Brutality Tour 2014 this Spring with co-headliners Oceano and Broken Hope. We're really excited to meet the guys in Rivers Of Nihil, whom we've been following for some time now, as well as regroup with Broken Hope whom we met over the Summer in Europe. KOLONY Premier music video for ECHOES

Montreal, Quebec musicians Kolony debut their new video for the track "Echoes". The full length album Sledge is due out later in the year."We are very proud to share this music video with you for our first single 'Echoes', which will be on our upcoming album 'Sledge'. The song refers to the ideal of living in perfect unity with the earth, respecting both our human nature and the world we live in. Hope you like it and that you'll spread the word about Kolony. Thanks for your support." comments vocalist/guitarist, Reno Benoit.

"Echoes" is perfect for the twenty something college set. The song is heavy yet non offensive. It's people friendly music. "Echoes" is angsty in all the right places what with the sweeping harmonies."Echoes" is flawlessly executed as Kolony are competent musicians.

Soreption - The Nature of Blight (single)

So technical, me like! That's my first impression of Soreption's next single, 'The Nature of Blight' from forthcoming album Engineering the Void. Growly, cookie monster vocals not withstanding, the music is gobsmacking. It's precise. It's mechanical. It's a beauty in mathematics. I actually hear Paganini in the guitar runs. Yes, the guitars are that perfect. You have guitarist Anton Svedin to thank for that. He's a technical wizard.  Engineering the Void is due to be released on February 18, just four days after Valentine's Day. But your loved one will cherish you forever and forgive the lateness of such a gift as it's totally worth it!
