Zombie Walk Seoul 2013

One of the highlights of my year is the Zombie Walk. I can be in NYC or Phoenix or anywhere: if there is a Zombie Walk... I"m so there! This year is no exception. I attended the Zombie Walk Seoul on September 28, 2013. This is the 3rd year it's been run and it was stellar! Over 600 people said they'd attend via Facebook and a good 50 to 60 were there at the beginning of the walk. This bloomed to a good 200 on the walk itself. The route wound its way through the HongDae area of Seoul, Korea. This is near the Hong Ik University. It is a great route.

You'd think this happens every day. Spectators varied from the interested to the "I'll record this on my phone." to those truly scared to those who couldn't give a toss. Everyone was super cool and fun. I think it's the zombie make-up and characters that are affected when in costume. It brings out the best in people. The after shenanigans occurred in HongDae Park with live music, an impromptu dance grou…

Ill Nino 2013 Tour Dates

OK - Epidemia is an album I like. Epidemia review for This Is Not A Scene I blast it frequently on the subway and subsequent walk home. I'm sure I'm singing (very badly) at the top of my lungs. Luckily, the Koreans and Foreigners in my neighbourhood are too polite to do anything but stare and smile. Unluckily, I'll be in same said Korean neighbourhood when Ill Nino hits the road this fall. This is a tour you HAVE TO check out. They kill it live and are supporting an album that is just gobsmackingly heavy.

An open letter from Nadezhda Tolokonnikova of Pussy Riot

Passing this along from The Guardian. It's an open letter from Pussy Riot's Nadezhda Tolokonnikova. It's a brutal read. A huge miscarriage of justice in a place that knows no justice. An artist, musician, soul is suffering.  Nadezhda Tolokonnikova,Monday 23 September 2013  Beginning Monday, 23 September, I am going on hunger strike. This is an extreme method, but I am convinced that it is my only way out of my current situation. The penal colony administration refuses to hear me. But I, in turn, refuse to back down from my demands. I will not remain silent, resigned to watch as my fellow prisoners collapse under the strain of slavery-like conditions. I demand that the colony administration respecthuman rights; I demand that the Mordovia camp function in accordance with the law. I demand that we be treated like human beings, not slaves. It has been a year since I arrived at Penal Colony No 14 in the Mordovian village of Parts. As the prisoner saying goes: &qu…

When The Deadbolt Breaks - The Scavengers Daughter

You want some nice old fashioned southern groove in your guitars? Want that mixed with a wall of sound that's almost doomy? How about some spacey vocals that swim just below the surface? If you answered yes to any of these questions, I give you... When The Deadbolt Breaks.

"The Scavengers Daughter" is the first track from the upcoming album Drifting Towards the Edge of the Earth. The first single is a seven and a half minute opus that has shades of Metallica, shades of death metal, shades of southern rock, shades of 70s trippy prog metal. Yet the song flows awesomely. Throughout the song, it never looses the GROOVE!!! The song is nothing short of fantastical.

I anticipate the album being just as extensive as it's over two hours spread on a double CD. You can pick up When The Deadbolt Breaks fourth CD Drifting Towards the Edge of the Earth on October 1.

Cara Neir - Portals to a Better, Dead World

Every once in a while you need music that is cathartic. You need music that is an assault on the senses. You need music that will draw you in, make you sweat, and then spit you out. This is my first experience with Cara Neir. Cara Neir's new album Portals to a Better, Dead World exposes your deepest darkest demons. The album is relentless. The vocals menacing. The guitars a constant barrage. Portals doesn't pause to let you catch a breath. Sometimes you can't put into words what an album is truly like and Portals to a Better, Dead World is one of those albums. Cara Neir created something visceral. Portals to a Better, Dead World has to be experienced; felt. It's music that washes over you and creates colours and patterns and emotion. I suspect "Peridot", "Closing Doors", "Red Moon Foreboding", "Dust Collector", "Forlorn Love", "Exalting the Shadow Proprietor", and "3,380 Pounds" will touch something…

Skeletonwitch - I Am of Death

OK - I am biased. I totally love Skeletonwitch. They are beyond bitchen live. Their albums are furious. And hey, they are just totally nice dudes (well, they were to me!)

Bloody Disgusting presents: Skeletonwitch - I Am of Death

Oh, you want an actual review of the song? It's frakking awesome! You will headbang until your heart's content. Growly vocals done right. Guitar riffage that is gobsmackingly amazing. Solid frenetic drumming. Skeletonwitch have put the right foot forward yet again!

Ten years ago, brothers Nate and Chance Garnette joined forces with Scott Hedrick in a new band they opted to call SKELETONWITCH. A decade later, the blackened metal powerhouse commemorates their anniversary with the world premiere of the slasher/classic horror-themed music video for "I Am Of Death (Hell Has Arrived)," a new song from the group's highly anticipated fifth studio offering, Serpents Unleashed.

Savage Messiah and Havok 2013 Tour DAtes

Two great tastes that go great together!

SAVAGE MESSIAH have announced a European tour with US thrashers HAVOK.

The "Unnatural Selection" European tour is due to kick off  in Edegem, Belgium, shortly after SAVAGE MESSIAH's headlining UK mini tour.

SAVAGE MESSIAH guitarist JOFF BAILEY comments:

"We're really excited to announce the news that we'll be hitting the road across Europe this November/December with Havok!  We really can't wait to hit European shores again and tear it up with all the Savages over there!  We've been shut away in the studio all summer working on the new record (which is sounding absolutely brutal by the way!) so when they finally let us loose for our headline tour in October and now across Europe a couple of weeks later with Havok, well, needless to say, we'll burst out fuckin' swinging!  I may even put in place a strict diet of Maiden, Metallica and Rocky montage scenes to fire us up even more!  See you on the road!  STA…
