Justin Lin Takes 'Star Trek 3' Helm

MMMkay... so the new Star Trek film will be out on  July 8, 2016. Justin Lin from Fast and Furious 6 will replace Roberto Orci as director.

As you recall,  J.J. Abrams is knee deep in  “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

"Star Trek 3” is now in pre-production and will open in theaters on July 8, 2016 in time for the franchise's 50th anniversary. The first air date for Star Trek was September 8, 1966 on NBC.

Roberto Orci, who co-wrote the sequel's script with Patrick McKay and John D. Payne, was set to direct but he stepped down from the job earlier this month. It would have been the first film he ever directed. No one knows quite why he decided to leave. It may be due to having a very busy schedule. He's also producing Van Helsing, The Wolfman, and The Mummy.

People may know Justin Lin from his television credits that include directing NBC’s “Community" and CBS’ “Scorpion”.

Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions are spearheading “Star Trek 3” with David Ellison, Orci and Abrams set to produce.
