ABSU Forced To Cancel Chaos In Tejas Performance

Mythological occult metal artisans ABSU regretfully announce the cancellation of their set at this weekend's Chaos In Tejas festivities, where they were confirmed to headline the show at Red 7 this Saturday with support from Terrorism, Loss, Morbosidad, Ares Kingdom and Black Witchery.
Immediately following their bludgeoning performance at the opening night of this year's sweltering installment of Maryland Deathfest this past Thursday night, ABSU drummer/vocalist Proscriptor had to rush back to Texas due to a knee infection. Following two instantaneous surgeries, Proscriptor will be in good health and back to 110% efficiency by the mid portion of June, but not in time to perform as scheduled on Saturday night.

This cancellation is disheartening to the band for the moment, as they were fully planning on leveling all in earshot at the performance this weekend; however, this procedure will now ensure that the band will be fully operational for the previously mentioned forthcoming ABSU live assaults throughout North and South America, which are being confirmed now to be announced in the weeks just ahead. Stay tuned to be inundated with new information on said events.

Bonded By Blood Stuck in Massachusettes

After finishing up a blistering tour with Kittie, Bonded By Blood find themselves stuck in Massachusettes with a dodgy trailer. As happens on the road, the trailer gave out before the metal did. The quartet from Pamona, CA are currently cooling their heels in Massachusettes. Carlos Regalado, Juan Juarez, Jessie Sanchez, and Mauro Gonzalez finished the tour in Lowell, MA
only to find the trailer leaf spring snapped and ist kaput! They need to gather funds to get the trailer fixed and begin the long cross country trek back to California. Bonded were on the road to introduce fans to the upcoming third album entitled The Aftermath due to be released July 3 via Earache Records. The album is destined to be in the Top 3 albums of 2012. Yes, it's just that
damn good. Bonded By Blood played 5 tracks from The Aftermath on the current tour to a rabid and much appreciative audience. The lucky fans that saw Bonded on the tour were treated to I Can't Hear You, Restless Minds, Crawling in the Shadows, Among the Vultures, and the title track The Aftermath which is just monstrously heavy live. The Kali Diaries would like to see this bunch of uber talented musicians get home to Cali for purely selfish reasons... I want another Bonded By Blood tour! And the only way I can see them on the road is to get them back on the road. You can PayPal all donations to to help with the costs of fixing the trailer and get them  on the road again. Once home, they can rest up and get ready for the album release and another tour. In the meantime, pre-order the best thrash album of 2012 here via Earache:  in North America at or in Europe at  And please for the love of all that is good and metal send whatever pound note, geld, won, ruble, ducket, dosh, benjamin you have at  your disposal to the following PayPal account:  Any little bit helps and once the trailer is fixed Carlos, Juan, Mauro and Jessie can get back to doing what they do best - providing kick ass metal to the masses.

STAR TREK TNG Cast at Phoenix Comicon

Friday at Phoenix Comicon was just gobsmacking amazing. Three members of Star Trek: The Next Generation cast had panels. The panels were well attended with legions of Trek fans showing some love.

LeVar Burton was first up. LeVar let us know that a new Reading Rainbow is in the works. Due to be released June 19, Reading Rainbow will be available as an ap for the IOS platform and tablet computers and will be available in the ap store. By the end of the year, it will be available for select Android models. Burton grew up with reading and indeed it was expected of him by his English teacher mother.  "In Irma Jean's house you either read a book or got hit in the head with one."

Next up was the amazing Marina Sirtis, a Tottenham Hotspur fan. She related an awesome story (well, I thought it awesome as I'm a die hard Chelsea supporter) of how she got an Arsenal fan chucked out of a panel she and Will Wheaton were conducting. If you've never seen Marina live, you've missed out! She's just amazing and lively. She opened her panel by making everyone shut off their video cameras: "I don't act for free. I'm working here. You want to pay me my going rate, you can video me all day long." LOVE HER!!!! She says on playing Counselor Troi, "The hardest thing was keeping Marina out of Troi."

The Phoenix Comicon attendees showed Michael Dorn some tremendous love. The line for his panel snaked down the hall, around the corner, and down to the end of the hall. Amazing! Dorn spoke about working on TNG and DS9. On working on TNG he says it was the "most fun seven years I've ever spent."  He had some great things to say about women when a fan asked about dating advice. "You'll get to a certain age and you realize I know nothing about women. The best advise is to go with what you feel and let the chips fall where they may." "Either she loves me or she wnats to set me on fire. Could be both." Yep, Dorny (as Marina Sirtis calls him) is just that cool. You can follow him on Twitter:!/akaWorf  and keep up to date on all his projects.

Friday, May 25, 2012 the most unique zombie series ever. Come see Jay and Mark at Phoenix Comicon
LeVar Burton: "Home training, it works." New Reading Rainbow out June 19 via an ap for tablet computers.

Kiss The Gunner's Daughter - Still Here

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot! Why are these guys not signed?  Kiss The Gunner's Daughter have nailed it with the single Still Here from their upcoming album which is to be released Summer 2012.  I'm gobsmackingly in love with this track. It bobs and weaves between the emo metal of Staind, the killer guitar riffage of Savage Messiah, the intensity of Godsmack, and bitchen Alice in Chains harmonies. It's no surprise these guys are from Seattle, long the bastian of unique and inspired music. Kiss the Gunner's Daughter sports Kelly Murphy on drums, Nick Sundesten on bass, Josh Perry nailing some totally bitchin' guitar, and Sean Ingalls providing the chills on vocals. Still Here reaches into your synapses and rips your heart out. It's dark and broody yet killer head banging goodness. Still Here is an amazing composition. There are so many shades to this song. The harmonies are amazing, the drumming is hard driving, the guitar is metal at it's finest. The band has only been around since 2010 but I'm putting my money on the fact that they are going to blaze a train all across the USA with their killer brand of metal.!/pages/Kiss-The-Gunners-Daughter/149364991750802

Musing on Music: Bethany Heights "Proper Medication"

Proper Medication is the newest single from Phoenix's
own Bethany Heights. Proper Medication is from their
debut EP entitled Paydirt. It was recorded with Craig
Long. The trio consists of Andrew David on vocals and
guitar, John Carter on bass, and Atom Albany on drums.
The single channels Brittany Fox, Warrant, and Poison -
the hair metal kings of the 90s.  Proper Medication is
guitar and drum heavy. They are the driving force in the
song. I could barely hear  John Carter on bass on this
track. I LOVE bass but its absense in this case kinda
works. Proper Medication has grooves within grooves.
The hook is catchy as hell and you'll find yourself singing
the song long after it's done spinning.

Patrick Stewart unable to attend Phoenix Comicon

Today Phoenix Comicon was saddened to report that Patrick Stewart will not be able to attend the convention due to filming commitments.
We've had fun announcing new guests this past week. Today, however, we are sad to announce a guest cancellation: Patrick Stewart is unable to attend Phoenix Comicon due to filming commitments.

We will be refunding all Patrick Stewart solo photo op purchases along with all TNG Cast photo op purchases. Refunds should be complete within the next 72 hours.

The TNG Cast photo op will continue with...
Brent, Marina, LeVar, and Michael and will be repriced and offered for purchase online.

We have been fortunate over the years to not have any major guest cancellations, especially this close to our show. It is a risk we take as we book headlining actors, and working actors at that. This really is our first major guest cancellation we have had in over four years.

Thank you to everyone for your ongoing support and for your understanding. We will have a great show.

Now let's see what else we have up our sleeves ...

New England Browncoats Present Can’t Stop the Serenity 2012

May 7, 2012 by

The New England Browncoats present the Seventh Annual “Can’t Stop the Serenity” Event at the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline, MA at midnight on Saturday, June 23rd, 2012.
“Can’t Stop the Serenity” is a global fundraising effort featuring charity screenings of Joss Whedon’s 2005 film Serenity to benefit Equality Now. In the last six years, the New England Browncoats have raised over $22,000, and in total over $600,000 has been raised for Equality Now around the world.
Fans of Joss Whedon show Serenity on his birthday to honor him and to raise money for
his favorite charity, Equality Now. Equality Now works to end violence and discrimination against women and girls around the world through the mobilization of public pressure.

In addition to raising money for Equality Now, we will also be collecting non-perishable food items for Rosie’s Place, a sanctuary for poor and homeless women that offers emergency and long-term assistance to women. In the past six years the New England Browncoats have collected over 2,500 lbs. for local charities. Anyone that brings a donation will be eligible for raffle prizes.
Tickets for this event will be $15 in advance and $18 the day of the show. They are available at the Coolidge Corner Theatre Box Office or online at

Details on the event will be listed and updated at Details of the event can also be found on the CSTS Boston Facebook page and on Twitter.

About Serenity: A passenger with a deadly secret. Six rebels on the run. An assassin in pursuit. When the renegade crew of Serenity agrees to hide a fugitive on their ship, they find themselves in an action-packed battle between the relentless military might of a totalitarian regime who will destroy anything – or anyone – to get the girl back and the bloodthirsty creatures who roam the uncharted areas of space. But, the greatest danger of all may be on their ship. From the mind of Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel) comes a new edge-of-your seat adventure loaded with explosive battles, gripping special effects and fantastic new worlds. Serenity is rated PG-13 by the MPAA.

Help Goatwhore Get Sum New Wheelz!!!!!

Hey all you metal heads! Goatwhore are going to embark on yet another kick ass tour for your listening and viewing pleasure. But they need a wee bit of help. From the Goatwhore camp: We are embarking on a 7 week long national tour later this summer that will take us all over the United States and parts of Canada. Whilesome people may think that being active in the music business and going on tour may be financially prosperous, that is not always the case. Our goal is to be able to rent a new and different touringvehicle for this upcoming tour. Our usual mode of transportation is a 15-passenger van which gets roughly 9 mpg pulling our loaded trailer. This new vehicle will be much more comfortable and take some of the stress of the road off of us. More importantly, it gets upwards of 20 mpg pulling a loaded trailer. This will account for considerable fuel savings as well as a reduction in emissions due to the vehicles clean burning ultra low sulphur diesel engine. We are inviting fans to chipin to our cause to be able to feasibly rent this vehicle from mid-July to late August.

May The Fourth Be With You Friday Night Dance Party!

Tonight's special May The Fourth Be With You dance party is as epic and grandiose as Star Wars itself. The movies are iconic. They inhabit a collective cultural consciousness. Tunage for tonite is not that heavy and deep - but is sure to inspire you to whip out your light sabers and thwart evil. There be swashbuckling. There be themes of good versus evil. There be romance. Well, at least you'll have a bitchin' soundtrack for Star Wars Day!!! Come, get your Force on!

Job For a Cowboy - Imperium Wolves: succinctly sums up why the Rebellion needs to crush the evil empire.

EVILE - Cult: Have you been searching for the answer? Looking for soul in your devotion? Purify your eyes! All we ask is that you join the Dark Side....

Countless Thousands - A Pirate's Shanty: I promised you swashbuckling!!!

Hate Squad - Not My God: Every epic tale needs a hero and Burkhard Schmitt is fully fit for the role!

Primal Rock Rebellion - No Place Like Home:  Yep, no place quite like Alderaan. The video was shot there before Lord Vadar "made an example of it".

Bonded By Blood - Restless Mind: Music to blast TIE fighters out of the sky!

Hung - Evil Tsar: Much like the Emperor Palpatine himself, evil and wicked.

Fall of Eden - A Call For Blood: It's how Vader rallies his troops!

Onslaught @ St. Vitas Bar (Brooklyn, NY) 2012 April 07

Americans cling to an outmoded stereotype of a "metal" fan. Invariably its a young 18-24 year old drugged up non-ethnic white male with the IQ of a goldfish. The people who perpetuate this myth have obviously NEVER been to a metal show. I hit up St. Vitas Bar in Brooklyn to catch the last stop of Onslaught's first ever USA tour. The audience was as varied as the type of donuts at the local Krispy Kreme. Young and old and older; male and female; all colours, shapes, and sizes. Metal music appeals to everyone. The lyrics are honest and raw. It's a place to find refuge from a really crappy world. A place to find solidarity when everyone turns against you. At least that was the vibe in Brooklyn.

It's a long night of metal kicked off by local band Hypoxia. I got to meet lead singer, John, who is an affable bloke. Their music is hard and heavy, the highlight being a song called "The Walking Dead". It was excellent for all the Zombie lovers in the audience. Their set was a half-hour, only enough to whet the appetite of the crowd. The second band was a progressive speed metal outfit called Blue Hammer. The music was a cross between Black Sabbath and Slayer while the lead singer channeled King Diamond. Indestructible Noise Command from Connecticut hit the stage at 2200 hours. The band was comprised of 30-40 something year olds. I thought it novel the lead singer announced it was their first gig in twenty-three years. You read that right, 23 years! They played a surprisingly tight thrash metal set. It was circle pit worthy if you could have had the space as the crowd was quite densely packed by now. As the night progressed the bands got incrementally older. 2300 hours brought out Empire of Evil, a trio in their 40s-50s. They created a wall of sound with good old fashioned hard rock / heavy metal. The crowd loved them and knew all the songs.

That ends my review as for Onslaught, I shot some pretty choice shots for Australian metal magazine Metal as Fuck. Check out the photos.  Then peruse the website for the latest and greatest in heavy metal.

What I can say is that you know it's a good night when stage diving takes place. Onslaught nailed a 90 minute set to a much appreciative crowd. They played a heady mix of old and new. Travesty it took multiple decades to get them to the USA. The fanbase in Brooklyn is loyal and intense and I can't imagine it being different any where else they played this tour.

SLAYER updates Jeff Hanneman's status

A wee bit over a  year ago I saw the Big 4 in Indio, CA. To my surprise, gutarist Jeff Hanneman appeared onstage with band mates in Slayer for an encore. He had been bitten by a spider and it wrecked havok on his system. Didn't really know how bad it was, just that it was bad enough to have him not in the band and replaced by two guitar players for the 2011 tour schedule. Today, the Slayer camp released an update on Jeff's status:

Slayer fans everywhere - it's time to let you know what is going on with our brother Jeff Hanneman.

As you know, Jeff was bitten by a spider more than a year ago, but what you may not have known was that for a couple of days after he went to the ER, things were touch-and-go. There was talk that he might have to have his arm amputated, and we didn't know if he was going to pull through at all. He was in a medically-induced coma for a few days and had several operations to remove the dead and dying tissue from his arm. So, understand, he was in really, really bad shape. It's been about a year since he got out of the hospital, and since then, he had to learn to walk again, he's had several painful skin grafts, he's been in rehab doing exercises to regain the strength in his arm; but best of all, he's been playing guitar. We were all excited when he joined us onstage for the encore a year ago at The Big Four show at Coachella. Since then, we've given him all the time and support he's needed to continue his rehab so he can come back to the band fully recovered and able to deliver the kind of shows we all want him to. While Jeff's been doing some writing and has been coming to rehearsal over the past several weeks, he has decided he needs to take more time to continue his rehab. While we want him back onstage with the band, all of us support his decision. So, we're very grateful that Gary Holt will continue to fill in for Jeff, and will tour with us until Jeff completes his rehab and is ready to return. How long will that be? The best and most honest answer we can give you is 'as long as it takes.' We also wanted you to know that we've been doing some writing and recording for the next Slayer album - we've tracked a few songs, and will finish the album when we're off the road later this year. Gary will join us on tour in Europe and the UK in May and June, and then we'll all see you on this Summer's Mayhem Festival.
