Fusion Metal Benefit

Fusion Metal Benefit

Sat, Jan 7 2012, 6:30p.m. - 9:30p.m.
Fusion Performing Arts CenterVoorhees, NJ, United States

Alright. We all know that booking metal at Fusion Performing Arts Center in Voorhees, NJ is something that is worth fighting for. Well, here's the chance for 4 bands to play there and make it so we can have metal shows on a regular basis.

This show is a benefit show for Fusion to help them raise money to build the wall they need to help them insulate sound from the mall. This is our limitation to booking heavy shows there. Our goal in this is to raise $2000 from the metal scene and show them our support!

To save a lot of people time, i need to reiterate that this is a BENEFIT show for Fusion. Bands will not be paid. This is to help a venue who wants to help all bands. Xombified Management will not be profiting of this show either so relax.

If you want your to play, your band must get 20 people to make a minimum donation of $5. Anyone that donates $30 or more will get 3 passes to any future XM shows of their choice.

Every band that posts their band name on the event page will be placed on our presale ticket page. The first 4 bands to get 20 people to donate at least $5, or the top 4 bands by Saturday December 10th, will perform in the January 7th show. Any band that doesn't make it to play that show, DON'T FRET! You're efforts will not be in vain! First, all profits for the show go to Fusion, so the money isn't being pocketed. They are a non-profit organization. Second, any band that gets ANY donations under your band's name will play our next metal shows. Bands who don't make the January show will be placed on the next shows according to how many people donated under their name.

If you're band is interested in playing, post your name on the Facebook event page and please message us with details as to why your band will benefit Fusion the most. Remember, only 4 slots available!

Go here to order tickets or make your donation: http://xm.ticketleap.com/fusion-metal-benefit/

MAKE SURE TO INVITE YOUR FRIENDS!

So far the bands that have expressed interest in playing are:
Intervals of Redemption
March to Victory
Dynasty
Drehem
Defeat the Deep
Another Vendetta

GODS AND QUEENS: Philadelphia Trio Involved In Serious Van Accident in Czech Republic

Philadelphia-based GODS AND QUEENS were involved in a serious accident while on their current self-booked European tour this weekend in the Czech Republic. Several of the members and their traveling friends received very serious injuries in the crazy scary accident, which destroyed their van, equipment and personal gear.

The band are now struggling to cover their bills and are reaching out for the public's help. Please go drop a meager $1.99 on their latest untitled full-length album via the band's Bandcamp page  http://godsandqueens.bandcamp.com/ to help these hard-working dudes cover their hospital and travel expenses. We need to bring our guys back home to Philly!

The full initial statement released by GODS AND QUEENS frontman Jamie Getz is below:

----------------

I´m going to try and make this as short as I can. After all these years of touring in unsafe vans, and doing stupid things, I guess I was overdue for this... We had a serious van accident in route from our show in Graz, Austria to Dresden, Germany, somewhere along the highway in the Czech.

I was asleep in the back of the van, so I'm unsure of what exactly happened. All I know is I felt the van skidding out and we started to slide and roll over. Not sure exactly how many times the van flipped but it was more than enough. I started screaming for everyone to tell me they were OK. Gertjan check, Ben check, Sara check, and I didn't hear Jeff.

Ben pulled me out through the windshield and I took off running, screaming for help with blood pouring down my face. I honestly though Jeff was dead. A car stopped and a slew of women started screaming at me and I was screaming at them. We were in the middle of nowhere and as I was running two things came to mind, I think Jeff is dead, and I hope I don´t get shot like Artimus Pyle. A woman pulled me into her house and her husband and son ran to the van crash site. I found Gertjan, and he said everyone is OK. The family started talking to me via Google Translation telling me everyone is safe and that an ambulance is on the way.

The ambulance comes takes us to a hospital, we get taken care of... sort of. The police arrive on the scene and inform us that we aren´t leaving until the medical bills are paid in full. They were so kind enough to escort Sara and myself to an ATM machine to pay the entire lump of the bills in full on the spot. Even after we signed some strange papers saying we have 30 day with proof of citizenship, etc. What the fuck ever right? We asked where Gertjan was, and their response was...prison. 300 phone calls and around €3,000 later we are out of the damned Czech and safe in Germany.

Long short, we are all somewhat OK. Jeff broke his collar bone, Ben got his hand jacked up, I am pretty alright, Gertjan is OK, as well as Sara. The van is destroyed. Booking these tours ourselves really made me realize that we are 100% on our own. We had no one to call, no one to "rescue" us. I made 3 phone calls and the entire German punk scene came to our rescue. God damn thank you. Our new friends from Dresden, Germany came to get us at the drop of a hat, no questions asked. Thank you.

So here it is, we are 3 grown adult males in our 30´s who play in a punk band. We are all stage hands at R5 Productions in Philly. That´s what we do to enable us to be here in Europe doing this. Never in our lives have we needed help like we do now. If you want to help us, please go to www.godsandqueens.bandcamp.com and purchase a record for $1.99. If you ever laughed at one of my awful jokes, or spend hours talking with us after a show, and you would like to help, please do. I always thought our band would have too much pride to ask for help, but I am pretty sure we all agree that this time we need it. If you would like to help in any form please do jamiegetz(at)gmail(dot)com is the paypal address if you are inclined to do so. We will also accept first class upgrades on US Air, Delta or Virgin.

Thanks.

William Shatner attending Phoenix Comicon in 2012

Can I get a hell yeah!! from everybody in the house?! Mark your calendars folks, May 26, 2012 is the day to be in Phoenix!

Phoenix is hosting the legendary actor, writer, "singer" William Shatner for this year’s Phoenix Comicon. Universally loved for his run as Captain James T. Kirk of the starship Enterprise. Starred in two of the most kick ass Twilight Zone episodes ever: Nightmare at 20,000 feet and Nick of Time. And everybody's favourite TJ Hooker!

“It’s a great honor having William Shatner attend our event, he is an icon of the science fiction genre” commented Convention Director Matt Solberg.

“Shatner is very diverse in his contributions to pop culture and we hope our attendees will be as excited as we are that he is attending our convention,” stated Joe Boudrie, the Director of Programming.

Tis no lie! Shatner has appeared in such iconic TV shows such as: 77 Sunset Strip, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., The Fugitive, Dr. Kildare, Mission Impossible, Hawaii 5-0, Marcus Welby... are you kidding me??!! The man works!!

William Shatner is appearing on Saturday May 26, 2012 at Phoenix Comicon, the the most awesome event of the southwest. Entering its tenth year, Phoenix Comicon is expected to draw over 25,000 attendees to its May 24-27, 2012 convention held at the Phoenix Convention Center and Hyatt Regency in Downtown Phoenix.

For more information, please go to http://www.phoenixcomicon.com.

Take a listen to my all time favourite Shatner song Common People form his 2007 album Has Been.

Crucial Times - The Age of Denial

Crucial Times asks punters if they are losing their mind? I don't think the band is, but their music is the soundtrack to a society that is losing their mind. The music is chaotic and frenzied and is all over the place. It definitely makes you want to get up and just move. The Age of Denial was released earlier this year, 2011, on Clenched Fist Records. It's a hard driving album that will make any lover of punk metal, thrash metal, death metal happy. The band encompasses all those genre's on the album. It's done quite well. The lyrics are uber political, you'd think the band hailed from Brooklyn circa the 1980s. Crucial Times is emerging head and shoulders above the rest in the metal festival laced Belgium.

Other than the hard driving music that make this band interesting, was the way they got together - all on Facebook. Guitarist Jelle Druyts posted on Facebook he needed a band and lo and behold he got a few takers with Bart Van Den Vonder and Yves Van Gorp on vocals and additional guitar playr Wannes Vanthienen. The rhythm section was harder to come by . LOL So hard it was, it's rumored that Nick De Bruyn is actually another guitar player that was talked into playing bass for the band. We're glad he did.

Relicseed gearing up for 2012 tour dates!

Have a look see at a unique way to raise money for a tour. Leave it to the out of the box thinking Latvian metal band, RELICSEED to come up with a groovy way to get fans involved with the recording and touring process!!

Vallenfyre - A Fragile King

Things that make me go SQUEEEEEEE!!!!! Gregor Makintosh, guitar god and lover of the WaWa, from the kick ass band Paradise Lost has a new offering. This time, he's traded his axe for a microphone. Teaming up with Adrian Erlandsson (Paradise Lost), Hamish Glencross (My Dying Bride) and Mully and Scoot, Mackintosh gives a much humbled and grateful world... VALLENFYRE!!!! The debut album A Fragile King is released via Century Media records. The title, A Fragile King is a reference to Mackintosh's father battling and losing to cancer. He's said the lyrics are grim. Blimey, they are down right angry!

This is an album you HAVE TO buy! These are dudes you HAVE TO see live! If you can't make Bloodstock in 2012 - you gotta beg, torture, blackmail your local promoter to get them to play the United States.

All Will Suffer is a heavy sludgy doom laden bliss for the ears. It's the perfect doom metal song, almost operatic in it's execution. There is a flow to the music and then abrupt stops and lyrical passages.

Desecration gives the listener spit fire machine gun like guitars courtesy of Hamish and Mully. New to the vocal thing, Gregor's growly vocals are not hard to understand. His voice fits the bleakness of the music. Mojo JoJo wold be proud! Great guitar flourishes that ride above the rhythm guitar and bass. If you were into St. Vitus and Celtic Frost - you'll appreciate parts of this song. Desecration's composition is full of things you know and like, but put together expertly. I love how the song ends. I won't spoil it for you, but it's such a unique way to end a song and it totally fits.

Ravenous Whore vomits with circle pit intensity. It's sludgy, has a hefty low end, and is totally bass drum driven.

Cathedrals of Dread has loads of chord work. Awesome soloing here! The fretwork weaves in and out of the song. The lyrics are fierce and angry and not in that "cool" emo way. These are grown up emotions and frustrations everyone can relate to. The song is about betrayal of God and the anger of being at the end of your rope and realization that religion is not going to help you.

As the World Collapses encompasses that mouthwatering drop A tuning. It's beyond sludgy and has a thick dark sound to it.

Seeds evokes black velvet curtains, Nosferatu, candle chandeliers; it's very Bela Lagosi is dead.

Humanity Wept cries out for a circle pit. It's frenzied and fast paced.

My Black Siberia show cases some tight playing. This song contains no extraneous notes.

The Divine Have Fled is almost polka like. Polka Metal... at warp speed.

The Grim Irony sits just behind the beat. It's slow and slinky but has got a wicked groove. It's very dirge-like.

The limited Digipack and 180 gram vinyl sports a bonus track called Majesty Dethroned. It opens with a predatory growl before careening into psychotic machine gun drumming and guitar playing. Unrelenting pace it has and is not for the faint of heart.

Be happy! View the video for Cathedrals of Dread!!

RELICSEED'S Queen! Live from the UK

The tour of the UK was a rousing success. So much so, Relicseed made a video! Check this out- it's their new single QUEEN shot live in the UK! Wicked good, my friends. Wicked good!

Black Skies hits it out of the ballpark with new album On The Wings of Time

The third album from this kick ass band is ready for the masses. On the Wings of Time is a head banging punk rock ear fest with a loverly heavy grunge metal tinge. It's hard to put it in just one category. It's a loud cacophony of guitars with understated vocals. It's music to lose yourself in. Tim Herzog's drumming propels you into ethereal grayness while the twin vocal attack of Michelle Temple and Kevin Clark do a vocal tango. Michelle is part Siouxsie Sioux and part Exene Cervenka. Her vocals are a great compliment to Kevin's "strait man" Tom Waits style - if Tom Wait was into heavy rock. The music is forceful and moving, eery and moody, it's stripped down and unabashed. This is music for the soul. It's meant to be played loudly - on vinyl if you can.

Until you find the disk to turn, pick up Black Skies On the Wings of Time from http://blackskies.bandcamp.com It's the best $5 you'll ever spend.

The band is hitting the road this month. I totally suggest you check them out!

Armada Drive full length album Armada Drive

Somedays, out of no where, you get some great music coming across your computer. Today was that day. An acquaintance named Graeme said he had a band and we should listen to it. No big thing. A lot of my friends are in bands. LOL Most of them are quite good. Thames Burial. Collapse. Relicseed. Doro. Quite good bands. I now have to add Armada Drive to the list. They are from Halifax, NS. Canadians, eh! But the sound is pure rock and roll!

The self titled Armada Drive opens with Generation Why. It has driving guitars is uplifting and moving. The vocals could be think in spots but then will get all William DuVall Alice in Chains. It's a crisp clean 90s grunge rock sound.

Graeme Brown and Rob Gillian's guitar playing is stellar throughout the album. It's definitely the highlight of listening to this disk.

On Bash, the Alice in Chains sound comes shining thru. There are also shades of Stone Temple Pilots. It's a fun, upbeat song that will get peeps on the dance floor. Bash is definitely a stand out track!

To show the lighter side of Armada Drive, they busted out with an updated Ballroom Blitz. It's not as schmarmy wink-wink-nudge-nudge as the cover by Krokus or even the light-hearted fun of the original by Sweet. They threw in some stock vocal growls but it's still a likable party song.

See Me Now = power ballad. Perfectly written for the ladies, hoisting your BIC lighters, and young men trying to be band and cool at the same time. Plenty of power chords and hard drumming to make the target demographic 16 - 24 year old boys pout petulantly, feel that no one understands them, and get all moody. A boy like that plays this song for a girl and he's got her.

The album closes with Lay Me Down. Again, if you like Alice in Chains, you'll LOVE this track. The vocals are perfect here and the guitars are just stunning. Everything about this song just fits. It's a catchy track and you'll be singing along with it before the three minute mark.

Don't take my word for it. You can listen to the entire album here: grooveshark.com/#/album/Armada+Drive And if it's something you like, go by Armada Drive and buy it. It's a great addition to your music collection.

Corey Smoot (aka Flattus Maximus) R.I.P

Dave Brockie’s latest statement about the untimely death of friend and bandmate Cory Smoot (aka Flattus Maximus):

“After a restless night spent hurtling through the desolate Canadian wilderness, I crawled from my bunk on the tour bus to face reality, grudgingly aware that the the dark dream that gripped us would not fade with the day. We have lost a brother, a husband, a son, and one of the most talented musicians that ever slung an ax. Cory Smoot, longtime lead guitar player for the band GWAR, has passed at the age of 34.

As the singer of GWAR and one of his best friends, I feel it is my duty to try and answer some of the questions that surround his tragic and untimely death. I know the sense of loss and pain is far greater in scope than in the insulated environment of a band on tour, and I will do my best to provide what clarity and comfort I can.

The most glaring question is how? And unfortunately that is the hardest question to answer. The truth will not be known until the medical officials have finished their work. All I can do is relate what we saw with our own eyes.

The last time I saw Cory was after our show in Minneapolis on Weds. night. It was a great show at First Avenue in Minneapolis, one of our favorite places to play. Cory was happy. He was excited about the band and especially the new studio he was building in the Slave Pit back in Richmond. He was deeply in love with his wife, Jamie, and was busily planning their family and future in the beautiful home they had. As usual, after some autographs and banter, I was probably the first person in their bunk as we got ready for a big drive into Canada, and Cory and the rest of the guys were not far behind. As I fell into the slumber that only playing GWAR shows can induce, everything seemed right in the world.

We found Cory the next morning as we collected passports for a border crossing. He was in his bunk, unresponsive, and it quickly was clear that he was dead. It was without a doubt the most horrible moment of my life. That’s all I can say about it. Within moments everybody was off the bus, standing in a wind-swept parking lot in the middle of nowhere, trying to come to grips with the shock of it. First the ambulance arrived, and then the police, but there was nothing that could be done other than fully investigate the scene and remove Cory with care and respect.
We are completely devastated and shocked beyond belief. One night we had our friend and colleague, happy and healthy in the middle of our best tour in years- and the next morning, so suddenly, he was gone. Never have I seen starker proof of the fragility of life. Cory will be transported home to Richmond over the next few days, and an announcement regarding services will be made soon. We ask everyone to respect the families wish for privacy, and especially to keep his wife, Jamie, in your thoughts and prayers.

As we work our way through these difficult days the question is — what will GWAR do? After a lot of consideration, we have decided to carry on with the tour. Although the great temptation would be to return home, curl into a fetal position, and mourn, we can’t do that. First off, Cory wouldn’t want that. He would want us to go on and would be pissed if we didn’t. Plus we know the fans don’t want us to quit. They are going to want a chance to come to grips with their loss, and there is no better place to do that than at a GWAR show. Though it’s hard to believe, I think we all would feel a lot worse if we stopped. For better or worse we have to see this through.
That doesn’t mean that Cory will make his final journey without us. When the arrangements have been finalized, Cory’s best friend and GWAR’s music tech Dave “Gibby” Gibson, and myself will return home to attend the services and pay the proper respects to our comrade.
Out of respect to Cory, we have officially retired the character of Flattus Maximus. Flattus has decided to return to his beloved “Planet Home”, and will never return to this mudball planet again. And this is a sadder place for that.

Just the other day I heard Cory tell a story about how some 20 years ago he was fourteen years old, at his first GWAR show, grabbing at the rubber feet of our then- current Flattus, and how blown away he was at the fact that now HE was the one getting his feet pulled by the same kid that he used to be. Cory was always in awe of the patterns of life and went through it with a wide-eyed amazement that translated through his playing. I’ve never known anyone who could pick up literally any instrument and rock it the first time he touched it, and more than that make it look easy. Behind that rubber monster outfit, and sometimes even obscured by it, was one of the most talented and beautiful people I have ever known. I know everyone who’s life was touched by Cory truly loved him, as do we, his bandmates and brothers.

There should be some kind of announcement soon regarding services, etc. It would be great to have a memorial show at some point soon, where some of the bands that Cory worked with could come together and show their love for this truly amazing man who left us all too soon and will be sorely missed by many, many people.”

Doctor Who - Cast and Crew Dance and Sing to the Proclaimers

This is sure to put a smile on your face, even if you aren't a Dr. Who fanatic!!! The cast and crew of the David Tennant era Doctor Who dancing and singing to the Proclaimers "(I'm gonna be) 500 miles". The video is worth seeing the dancing Ood. The Ood can bust a move! LOL But my favourite part is Elizabeth Sladen dancing along side of David Tennant. Billie Piper, Freema Agyemon, and Catherine Tate make an appearance. As does the shirtless (and bedded) sound crew of Jules, Jeff, and Bryn. If that doesn't get them girlfriends I don't know what will. Jules, feel free to call me! LOL

GWAR guitarist Cory Smoot found dead on tour bus

Sad news to all who like their rock with a theatrical kick to it. Corey Smoot, who performed since 2002 under the name "Flattus Maximus" was found dead on the GWAR tour bus today following a show in Minneapolis, MN. Manager Jack Flanagan and record label Metal Blade said Cory Smoot's body was discovered before the bus crossed into Canada. It is unclear as to cause of death. Lead singer Dave Brockie, also known as "Oderus Urungus," said in a statement that "at this point we are just dealing with the loss of our dear friend and brother" and asked for privacy.

Desalmado's Hereditas EP

Ok - so you want crazy blistering chop-em-up-and-kill-em music? Have I got the thing for you! Desalmado! They are a death metal grind thrash outfit from Brazil. Greyhaze Records released a 10" vinyl taste entitled Hereditas. Clocking in at a whopping 16 minuts, it's full of metal fury! It's a frenzied romp thru metal, grind, thrash, death, and everything that makes these genre's fun and exciting! The music makes me think that if the Inca's had heavy metal grind thrash music - this is what they would play before they went into battle! These tracks are sick and scary! The album is due to drop later this year. It was produced by Jean Dolabella of Sepultura. Desalmado are currently on tour in Europe. Do yourself a favour and check them out! Be prepared to have your spine snapped!

Gods and Queens - October 24, 2011

Gods and Queens is an awesome trio from Philadelphia, PA. They are the original D.I.Y band. They tour, book, finance, promote and manage pretty much everything by themselves. That's staying true to the punk spirit. But make no mistake. They are a professional bunch totally serious about making music and taking it to the people! Jamie Getz, Ben Roysdon, an Jeff Ziga are strait up the real deal!

Collapse - Forsaken Live at Download Festival

Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot.
Collapse is the most awesomest band live. I don't say that because they buy the drinks (but that does help). Collapse played Download this year to a very appreciative head banging crowd. If you haven't checked them out - please do. They will blow your frakking heads off and make the evil DJ in your brain very happy indeed!!!

Subscribe to their You Tube channel for more video blogs, updates, and live footage! CollapseEngland on YouTube!
